Step out of the classroom and into the wild at the Gulf Breeze Zoo’s Fall Homeschool Day. Homeschool families are invited to turn the zoo into their classroom for a day of animal encounters, educational experiences and plenty of time to explore together.
On Friday, September 18, students of all ages can learn about animals up close through themed animal chats, Ambassador Meet & Greets and interactive activities led by the zoo’s education and animal care teams.
Fall Homeschool Day Activities
Themed Animal Chats
Go beyond the basics with special chats exploring animal adaptations, behavior and communication.
10 a.m. | Binturong: Built For The Canopy
See how the binturong’s unique adaptations help it thrive high in the rainforest canopy.
11:30 a.m. | Kangaroo: Always Moving Forward
Take a closer look at the unique way kangaroos move and the adaptations that make their locomotion possible.
1:30 p.m. | Howler Monkeys: Nature’s Loudest Alarm Clocks
Learn how howler monkeys communicate, then try your best howler monkey call.
2 p.m. | The Canopy Honey Trap
Put your thinking skills to work with a quick brain game at the beginning of the boardwalk.
2:30 p.m. | Kookaburras: What’s So Funny
Find out why kookaburras laugh and test your skills at freezing in a hunting pose.
Ambassador Meet & Greets*
Meet some of the zoo’s education ambassadors up close and learn more about the animals from our education and animal care teams.
10:30 a.m. | Green-Winged Macaw
12:30 p.m. | Snakes
3 p.m. | Cape White-Throated Monitor Lizard
*All Ambassador Meet & Greets will take place under the Boma.
Families can also enjoy unlimited train rides through our 30-acre preserve, where you can see rhinos, orangutans, gorillas and other animals along the way.
