Position: Full- and Part-Time

Description: The Gulf Breeze Zoo is searching for a Farm/Commissary keeper. The Gulf Breeze Zoo encourages you to apply if you are an energetic and hardworking individual who shares a passion for animal care.

Under direction of the General Curator, this position will care for the farm collection which includes but is not limited to goats, sheep, chickens and waterfowl. This position also works in the zoo commissary preparing diets for the entire zoo collection while maintaining high standards of cleanliness as per USDA standards.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform the general daily care of the animals in assigned exhibit and holding areas.
  • Maintains exhibits and holding areas in a clean and presentable condition at all times.
  • Carefully observes the animal collection for signs of illness or injury and reports problems to the department Supervisor.
  • Prepares food in accordance with dietary requirements and restrictions.
  • Provides enrichment as agreed to by department management.
  • Maintains the cleaning and hygiene of food/prep stations, dishes, food storage areas and tools and equipment.
  • Uses kitchen equipment such as choppers, grinders, mixers, and saws safely and properly.
  • Organizes food storage area and daily diets to ensure accurate delivery of food items
  • Other duties as instructed by supervisory department.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be able to complete daily tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision once trained and keep accurate daily records.
  • Must be physically fit and active, able to lift 50 pounds comfortably and be able to work in all types of weather.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain a non-smoking/vaping work environment.
  • Weekends and holidays are required

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Preferred applicants will have six months to one year of experience in food/diet preparation in a professional kitchen, feed store, animal facility or zoo.
